This is the first sermon in a 4-week sermon series titled: The Final Hour: Living with Hope in a Chaotic World where we dive deep into what the Bible actually says about the end of the age. We aren't here to speculate, and we certainly aren't here to panic. We are here to listen to the voice of Jesus.
There are three core truths Jesus gives us to help us tune out the cultural noise and anchor our faith.

Matthew 24:3-14 NIV [3] As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” [4] Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. [5] For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. [6] You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. [7] Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. [8] All these are the beginning of birth pains. [9] “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. [10] At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, [11] and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. [12] Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, [13] but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. [14] And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Introduction
If you’ve opened your phone this week, flipped on a news channel, or spent more than five minutes scrolling through social media, you’ve likely felt it. It’s a low-frequency hum of anxiety that seems to vibrate through our entire culture right now.
We look at global conflicts that seem to escalate overnight. We watch natural disasters break records, economic systems fluctuate wildly, and cultural values shift so fast it leaves us dizzy. And in the midst of all this turbulence, a familiar phrase has started echoing louder and louder :
"These must be the last days."
When the world gets chaotic, human beings naturally want certainty. We want answers. But too often, the loudest voices in our culture—and if we’re honest, sometimes even the loudest voices inside the Church—are the ones selling panic. We’ve been inundated with complicated charts, doomsday predictions, and frantic speculation. We’ve been conditioned to look at biblical prophecy like a puzzle to put together, or worse, a reason to build a survival bunker and hide.
But when you open the Scriptures, you discover that Jesus has a completely different posture for us.
Today, we are starting a brand-new, 4-week sermon series titled: The Final Hour: Living with Hope in a Chaotic World. Over the next four weeks, we are going to dive deep into what the Bible actually says about the end of the age. We aren't here to speculate, and we certainly aren't here to panic. We are here to listen to the voice of King Jesus.
Global chaos is not a sign that God has somehow lost the remote control to human history. It is a vivid reminder that His timeline is perfectly on track. The end times aren't a countdown to destruction; they are the birth pains of a brand-new creation.
Over the next four weeks we are going to learn how to tune out the frantic noise of the world. We are going to look at our own spiritual readiness to ensure our faith can go the distance. We are going to step out of survival mode and learn how to actively invest in the Kingdom while we wait. And ultimately, we are going to anchor our souls in the absolute guarantee of a triumphant ending—because we know exactly how the story ends.
If your final victory is already secured in Christ, no temporary storm on this earth can rob you of your peace, your joy, or your purpose. It's time for us to move from anxiety to action.
People are anxious. They want answers. We see people obsessing over complex timeline charts, trying to decode every single geopolitical headline, and treating prophecy like a puzzle to be solved rather than a truth to be lived.
But when we look at the teachings of Jesus, we see a completely different posture. Today James read from what is often called the Olivet Discourse (It’s called that because Jesus gave this specific teaching while sitting on the slopes of the Mount of Olives, so historians and theologians named it after the location of this teaching).
As Jesus sits with His disciples looking over Jerusalem, they ask Him point-blank about the signs of the end of the age.
Matthew 24:3 NIV As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
They asked this question response to something that Jesus said earlier.
Right before they asked this question, Jesus and his disciples were leaving the temple complex. The disciples pointed out the massive stones and beautiful architecture. .
Matthew 24:1 NIV Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings.
Jesus responded with a stunning prophecy:
Matthew 24:2 NIV “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
Now for first-century Jews, the temple was not just a religious building; it was the center of national identity, the place of God's presence on earth, and a symbol of divine protection. The idea of its total destruction was unfathomable and cataclysmic.
They could not conceive of a world where the magnificent temple was utterly destroyed unless it also meant the literal end of the current world order and the final, triumphant arrival of the Messiah to establish his kingdom. They assumed it would all happen soon.
If you are expecting Jesus to give them a secret calendar or a reason to build a doomsday bunker, you will be disappointed. Jesus didn't give us signs of the end so we would panic; He gave us signs so we would persevere. Chaos is not a sign that God has lost control; it’s a vivid reminder that His timeline is perfectly on track.
Let's look at three core truths Jesus gives us to help us tune out the cultural noise and anchor our faith.

1. Don't Be Deceived
Matthew 24:4-5 NIV Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.
It is fascinating that when the disciples asked about the end of the world, Jesus’ very first warning wasn't about geopolitical warfare, or failing economies. His first warning was about spiritual deception.
When the world gets chaotic, human beings naturally look for a savior—someone to bring order to the madness. Jesus warns that the last days will be marked by a flood of counterfeit voices, false teachers, and deceptive ideologies claiming to have the ultimate truth.
To tune out the noise, we must learn to test every voice against the unchanging truth of God’s Word.
1 John 4:1-3 NIV says Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
If a voice stirs up unbiblical fear, demands your ultimate allegiance over Christ, or distorts the gospel, it is a deception. Our focus must be anchored in the eternal truth of Scripture and not be guided by the latest breaking news notification.
2. The second truth is the "Birth Pains" Principle
Matthew 24:6-8 says NIV You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.
This is a deep metaphor that completely reshapes how we look at a chaotic world.
Think about labor contractions. I am not a woman but I understand that they are incredibly painful, unpredictable, and intense. However, when a mother experiences birth pains, no one in the room, except maybe the father, panics. No, they recognize that while the pain is real, it signals that something new and glorious is coming. The contractions are a sign of life, not death.
Jesus says that wars, rumors of wars, economic distress, and natural disasters are the birth pains of creation. They are reminders that the earth is groaning for its renewal.
Paul said this in his letter to the Roman church in Romans 8:18-21 NIV I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
When we see wars, rumors of wars, economic distress, and natural disasters, our response shouldn't be panic Jesus explicitly says, "See that you are not alarmed."
Matthew 24:6 NIV You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
The pain is real, but God's plan is secure. God hasn't control, everything is moving precisely toward His ultimate redemptive conclusion.
3. The third truth that Jesus gives is The Ultimate Sign
Many prophecy teachers will point to a million different moving pieces on the global stage as the "definitive sign" of the end times. But Jesus cuts through all that noise and gives us the ultimate sign.
Matthew 24:14 NIV And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Notice the deep truth here: The end doesn't come when the world gets dark enough; it comes when the Church gets loud enough.
God is not waiting for evil to hit a certain metric before He wraps up human history. He is waiting for His people to fulfill the mission. And what is the mission?
Matthew 28:19-20 NIV [19] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The timeline of the end is intimately tied to the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, tribe, and tongue.
This shifts our entire theological perspective. If we believe we are living in the final hour, our response shouldn't be passive survival or frantic speculation. It should be urgent, passionate evangelism. The definitive marker of the last days isn't the rise of darkness, but the unstoppable advance of the light.
Matthew 5:14-16 NIV “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Conclusion & Call to Action
It is time for us to stop obsessing over "prophecy charts" and start focusing on the Great Commission.
Matthew 28:19-20 NIV Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We must trade our anxiety for action. If you have spent more time this week reading political commentary, doom-scrolling through social media, or researching conspiracy theories than you have praying, reading Scripture, or sharing the love of Jesus with your
family, friends, and neighbors, your priorities are out of alignment with Jesus’ blueprint.
We do not need to fear the future because we know the One who holds it. The chaos around us is just the background noise of history—but the call on our lives remains clear: be watchful, stay faithful, and preach the gospel.
Paul wrote to Timothy and it applies to us today, 2 Timothy 4:2-5 says NIV Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
Let’s tune out the noise of the world and tune into the mission of King Jesus.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we confess that it is easy to let our hearts get troubled by the chaos we see on the news and feel in our culture. Forgive us for the times we have chosen fear over faith, and speculation over obedience. Guard our minds against deception, and anchor our souls in Your sovereign hand. Help us to see the trials of this world not as a sign of defeat, but as the birth pains of Your coming Kingdom. Give us an urgent passion to share the gospel with those around us, shifting our lives from anxiety to intentional action. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
